Shirley has over 25 years working with preschool children at the Aboriginal Head Start Program in Fort Chipewyan and Calgary. As a Counsellor Assistant at Fort McKay School, Shirley supported high school students, while working with grades one to nine. Shirley hosted a Peer Support Program for the youth, and brought the Northwind Dancer Troupe to many different communities in central Alberta to perform. Shirley received the Dreamcatcher Scholarship Award (Grant MacEwan Community College) for being a positive role model. Shirley is also a wellness advocate for our four-legged friends.
Shirley Hill has been an annual presenter at our school for the last 11 years bringing Native culture and dance to our students. We have invited her to our school year after year because of the passion she shares about her culture with our students. Her kind, sincere, gentle nature is endearing to the children and she imparts both knowledge and wisdom to them. She captivates her audience and keeps her presentations varied and interesting.
Shirley arrives well in advance of the presentation, is well prepared and mindful of all she does. We highly recommend Shirley for any project or presentation with children as they will learn so much from her. Walter & Margaret Reid Directors

Music Specialist and Learning Support
Shirley is knowledgeable, welcoming, and people of all ages respond to her gentle and kind personality. Shirley shares her cultural teachings with humility and ensures that all participants feel comfortable and positive. Regardless of background, Shirley engages students to participate and learn at each session.
I have had the opportunity to be a part of Shirley’s teachings at my own school on multiple occasions, where she shared artifacts, ceremony, traditional teachings, and one of her specialties - pow wow dance. An impressive part of Shirley’s work, is that she is able to engage audiences of all ages. I have seen her lead sessions with students in pre school up to grade 9, and her ability to engage all of these students is very special.
Shirley is a great teacher, but more importantly a lovely human being who always has a positive impact when she visits a school and works with students or staff. Hidesh Bhardwaj
